“Silver Slugger” Henderson unanimously won the AL Rookie of the Year, Carol Arizona’s first NL Rookie of the Year


Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles and Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks were named Rookies of the Year. All were unanimous winners.

MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, announced the winners of the Rookie of the Year awards on Thursday. Baltimore’s Henderson was named the American League Rookie of the Year, while Arizona’s Carroll was named the National League Rookie of the Year.굿모닝토토

Henderson was selected by Baltimore with the 42nd overall pick in the second round of the 2019 draft. He made his big league debut in 2022, hitting .259 (30-for-116) with four home runs, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored, a .348 on-base percentage, a .440 slugging percentage, and a .788 OPS in 34 games.

After getting a taste of the big leagues, Henderson fully developed into a major leaguer in 2023. In 150 games, he hit .255 (143-for-560) with 28 home runs, 82 RBI, 100 runs scored, 10 doubles, a .325 on-base percentage, a .489 slugging percentage, and an .815 OPS. For her performance, Henderson earned Silver Slugger honors.

On top of that, Henderson was unanimously named American League Rookie of the Year. She became the seventh rookie in Baltimore franchise history to win the award. The last Baltimore rookie to win the award was pitcher Greg Olson in 1989.

Carroll was selected by the Orioles with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 draft. He made his major league debut last season, batting .260 (27-for-104) with four home runs, a .330 on-base percentage, a .500 slugging percentage and an .830 OPS in 32 games. Then this year, his potential exploded. In 155 games, he hit .285 with 25 homers and 54 doubles, a .362 OBP, a .506 slugging percentage, and an .868 OPS.

Carroll was also unanimously named the National League Rookie of the Year. He also became Arizona’s first-ever Rookie of the Year winner.

This is the fifth time in history that both the American and National Leagues have unanimously crowned a Rookie of the Year. It has been six years since Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) and Cody Bellinger (Los Angeles Dodgers) were unanimous Rookie of the Year in 2017.
