This year, 650 players stepped up to the plate at least once in Major League Baseball (MLB). Only 20 of them (3.1%) have been nominated for both the Gold Glove (best defender by position) and Silver Slugger (best hitter by position) awards. One of them is Ha-Sung Kim (28-San Diego, pictured). This year, Kim’s combined fielding and offense ranked in the top 3 percent of MLB.굿모닝토토 도메인
According to the Silver Slugger finalists announced by the MLB office on Wednesday, Kim is among the National League (NL) utility candidates alongside Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers), Spencer Steer (Cincinnati), and Cody Bellinger (Chicago Cubs). Kim is also a finalist for the NL Second Base and Utility Gold Glove. MLB created a separate utility category last year to recognize players who play multiple positions and also award Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards.
“This season, Kim was all over the San Diego infield, hitting 17 home runs and stealing 38 bases,” the MLB office said in its nomination. Betts has 39 home runs and 107 RBIs, and Bellinger has 26 home runs and 97 RBIs, so Kim’s odds of winning the Silver Slugger are not great. However, both Betts and Bellinger are also nominated in the outfield category, so there is still a chance that Kim could be a “surprise winner” in the utility category. The Silver Slugger is voted on by the coaching staffs of MLB’s 30 teams.
Kim is more likely to win the Gold Glove. He will compete with Nico Horner (Chicago Cubs) and Bryson Stott (Philadelphia) in the second baseman category. Betts and Korean-American Tommy Edmon (St. Louis) are up for utility. Gold Glove winners will be announced on June 6 and Silver Slugger winners on June 10.
