Only SUN did it in 1986, Park Chul-soon, Choi Dong-won, and Kim Hyun-wook couldn’t… Pedi ‘Greater’ Challenge in 2023

It’s a ‘bigger’ challenge.

The NC Absolute Eight’s Eric Peddie will try to solidify his MVP status against the Changwon Kia on Aug. 26. Peddie had his worst game since joining the KBO on Aug. 31, giving up seven runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings against the Gwangju Kia. It was his lowest innings pitched and most runs allowed in a game.

At the time, the KIA bats were at their peak. The power of the complete batting lineup, now a memory, was immense. On top of that, Pedi’s condition was not good. His biggest strengths are his fastballs in the 150km range and his sharp command of his changeup, but on that day, many of his deliveries went right down the middle or broke.

Peddie then bounced back to his best. In his next three starts, he went 3-0 with a 0.42 ERA. In 26 games, he went 19-6 with a 2.13 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, a .205 batting average, 181 strikeouts, and 18 quality starts. He leads the league in wins, ERA, strikeouts, WHIP, and FIP. Only Choi is eighth in walks, but that’s human.

For Pedi, the 26th KIA game isn’t just about revenge. It’s a game that could be the starting point to solidify his MVP status. The Kia lineup is completely different from the one on August 31, as Park Chan-ho is out, followed by Na Sung-beom, Choi Won-joon, and Choi Hyung-woo. Na Sung-beom and Choi Hyung-woo are out for the season.

Strikeouts by pitchers with a 20-1 ERA in history

1982 Park Chul-soon (OB) 24 wins, 4 losses, 7 saves, 1.84 ERA, 108 strikeouts

1985 Choi Dong-won (LOTTE) 20-9, 8 saves, 1.92 ERA, 161 strikeouts

1986 Sun Dong-yeol (Haetae) 24-6, 6 saves, 0.99 ERA, 214 strikeouts.

1989 Seon Dong-yeol (Haetae) 21-3, 8 saves, 1.17 ERA, 198 strikeouts.

1990 Seon Dong-yeol (Haetae) 22-6, 4 saves, 1.13 ERA, 189 strikeouts.

1997 Kim Hyun-wook (Ssangbangul) 20-2, 6 saves, 1.88 ERA, 135 strikeouts.

2023 Eric Peddy (NC) 19-6, 2.13 ERA, 181 strikeouts, 181 walks.

It’s been widely publicized that Pedey will attempt to reach 20 wins and a sub-1 ERA this year for the first time in 26 years, since 1997. He’s one win away from 20, and his September surge has brought his ERA down into the low 2s. At this pace, he’s well on his way back into the single digits.

There’s another record that Pedi could really covet. Only Sun Dong-yeol did it in 1986: 20 wins, a sub-1 ERA, and 200 strikeouts. Of the seven times a pitcher has achieved 20 wins, a 1.00 ERA, and 200 strikeouts, only Seon Dong-yeol did it in 1986.

Peddy is striking out 10.40 batters per nine innings this year. That’s 10 in a complete game, but he’s been getting seven or eight in seven or eight innings. He’s got three more games to do it. If he can lower his ERA in those three games, he can summon the 1986 Sun Dong-yeol.토토사이트

After the KIA game on the 26th, Pedi is expected to start against Hanwha in Daejeon on the 2nd, SSG in Changwon on the 8th, or Hanwha in Changwon on the 9th. After the 10th of next month, NC still has two games in Gwangju against KIA, one in Changwon against LG, one in Changwon against Samsung, and one in Jamsil against Doosan. Pedi is expected to start one of those games. However, if he slips up in any of the remaining three games, he may have to settle for a 1986 Sun Dong-yeol recall instead of a 1989-1990 Sun Dong-yeol recall.
