Hanwha Eagles’ ‘super rookie’ Kim Seo-hyun prepares for the Miyazaki Education League.
This year’s No. 1 overall pick, Kim Seo-hyun, has been a highly anticipated rookie since before he joined the team. He is a talented pitcher with a fastball in the low 150s. Kim started her rookie season in the bullpen. On May 12, he earned his first save against the SSG Landers. However, she struggled with her pitches afterward.
After being dropped from the first team roster in early June, he returned in August, but only pitched 2⅔ innings of four runs in one game out of the bullpen and two innings of three runs in one game as a starter. After his start against the NC Dinos on August 17, Kim was sent back down to the second team the next day. It was determined that he still needed more time to adjust.
Hanwha manager Choi Won-ho said of Kim, “I’m getting reports that he’s working hard in the second team. I think he is preparing hard and trusting the second team coaching staff.” In recent Futures League games, Seo-hyun Kim hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it yet, as he’s given up back-to-back runs in three games with 13 strikeouts.
He’s a natural fireballer, but his pitches are something he’ll have to work on with experience. Hanwha decided to send Seo-hyun to the Phoenix Education League in Miyazaki, Japan next month.
Participation by KBO clubs in the Miyazaki Education League, which was suspended due to COVID-19, will resume this year. A total of three teams, Hanwha, Samsung Lions, and Doosan Bears, will compete in two combined teams.
Kim Seo-hyun will participate in the training league alongside Ha Joo-seok and other Hanwha players. Choi Won-ho said, “I’m sure there were some things I imagined before I joined the pros, but if this doesn’t work out as planned, it could be a total collapse. “I need time to figure it out,” he said. “I need to watch him throw in this training league and quickly find the feeling of throwing strikes in the future. She needs to practice a lot.”
“Seo has had a lot of ups and downs with her strikes in the pros. Command is next. For now, she needs to practice more and have no problems with her strikes.”메이저놀이터
Meanwhile, this year’s Miyazaki Education League has a total of 18 games scheduled. It will be held for 22 days, from October 9 to 30. While the KBO’s regular season runs through mid-October, Hanwha will be sending top prospect Kim Seo-hyun to the league to get a feel for the game in preparation for next season.
